To work in care is to make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. During the adult care worker apprenticeship, you’ll be equipped with the skills and expertise to provide high-quality compassionate care and support to help people live as independently and safely as possible—enabling them to have control and choice in their lives, which is at the heart of person-centred care. You may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home, or within clinical healthcare settings. Working with people, feeling passionate about supporting and enabling them to live a more independent and fulfilling life is a rewarding and worthwhile job that provides excellent career opportunities. You’ll need to show care, compassion, courage, communication, competence and commitment to carry out your role effectively. Your day-to-day duties will include supporting social activities, monitoring health, and assisting with eating, mobility and personal care. Other job titles could include care assistant, support worker or substance misuse worker.

Duration: 12 months

Entry requirements for the adult care worker apprenticeship: Disclosure and Barring Service check

Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs

Potential salary upon completion: £19,000 per annum
