Responsible for the safe handling of expensive aircraft
On the aviation movement specialist apprenticeship you could work in a wide range of environments that involve all kinds of landing platforms, runways and aircraft types. A well-respected job within the aviation sector, you’ll be responsible for the safe handling of very expensive aircraft, either commercial or military. The main purpose is to move aircraft into position, safely and efficiently. You’ll learn to use highly specialised equipment, such as using a tractor to tow a jet airplane into position, so it may take off. Working as part of a team, you’ll supervise and monitor team members to carry out daily inspections of equipment, ensuring its safe operation and is left in its allocated area after use. You’ll be expected to work outdoors in all weathers, on or around the landing platform or runway, working unusual hours and shifts.
Duration: 18 months
Relevant school subjects: Engineering, maths
Entry requirements for the aviation movement specialist apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience. You must hold a full driving licence.
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £28,000 per annum
