Aviation ground handler apprenticeship

Ensure the efficient and effective arrival, turnaround and departure of aircraft

During the aviation ground handler apprenticeship you’ll work in roles supporting the safe arrival, turnaround and departure of aircraft at airports, military bases, heliports and other airports. Expect to work outdoors in all weathers and on shift rotas and you’ll need to be physically fit and active. Daily duties will include help and support when guiding aircraft and transport, loading and unloading cargo and luggage, checking luggage against flight lists and taking it to the reclaim conveyor belt. Effective teamwork and communication is essential in this role, as you’ll be responsible for the safe, secure and timely delivery of tasks, while working equipment and machinery. Other job titles include baggage and handling agent and ramp agent.

 

Duration: 12 months

Relevant school subjects: PE

Entry requirements for the aviation ground handler apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience. You must hold a valid driving licence.

Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs

Potential salary upon completion: £24,000 per annum
