Certificate that building work achieves compliance with minimum standards

A building control surveyor provides an impartial service certificating that building work achieves compliance with minimum standards set out in the building regulations. Building control differs from other surveying roles in that surveyors perform what is essentially an enforcement function, ensuring compliance through the Building Act 1984. In addition to construction technology, you’ll require a full working knowledge of building regulations and associated legislation in force at the time work has been carried out in areas such as structural, thermal, fire, acoustics, ventilation and inclusive design. You’ll need to be an excellent communicator as this is a highly customer-facing role, requiring diplomacy and assertiveness. On completion of the building control surveyor apprenticeship, you’ll achieve a bachelor’s degree in building control.

Duration: 48 months

Relevant school subjects: Business studies and DT

Entry requirements for the building control surveyor apprenticeship: Three A-Levels or a level 3 apprenticeship in a construction or property-related discipline

Achievement upon completion: Level 6 (Degree)—equivalent to a bachelor’s degree

Potential salary upon completion: £33,000 per annum
