Composites manufacture is the combining of materials to form a lighter and stronger rigid structure as an alternative to metal. During the composites technician apprenticeship, you’ll find yourself at the heart of cutting-edge technologies, using state-of-the-art equipment. You’ll become a skilled resource that will be an enabler for manufacturing technologies, processes and practices. You’ll be engaged in a variety of processes in the production and creation of materials and components that are used in a range of applications, including airplanes, cars, boats, turbine blades, bridges and satellites. You’ll support manufacturing programmes and projects, and may be deployed in the areas of design, tooling, moulding, lay-up, curing, machining, inspection, testing, repair and material production.
Duration: 36 months
Relevant school subjects: Science and DT
Entry requirements for the composites technician apprenticeship: Three GCSEs, including maths, English and a science- or technology-based subject
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £25,000 per annum
