Furniture product developer apprenticeship

Combine design, business and engineering skills to develop new and improved furniture products

This role will see you developing new and improved furniture products such as domestic and office furniture. During the furniture product developer apprenticeship you’ll be developing new products or improving on existing products to meet customers’ needs more effectively. You’ll create design briefs based on your knowledge of industry legislation and an understanding of products and materials, and then manage the furniture product development and improvement process from conception through to completion. In your daily work, you’ll interact with a range of people, including production and manufacturing managers, quality technicians, product developers, engineers, purchasers, customers and suppliers, and you’ll develop an understanding of design, testing, materials and manufacturing processes. A furniture product developer combines design, business and engineering skills to create products that meet both market and production requirements. You’ll also test products both internally and externally.

 

Duration: 24 months

Relevant school subjects: DT and art, business studies

Entry requirements for the furniture product developer apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels

Potential salary upon completion: £25,000
