Build, maintain and repair parts for the country’s gas network
The hazardous nature of natural gas makes the safe operation, control and maintenance of the country’s gas network vital to averting major loss or interruption to supplies. It is the role of the gas network craftperson to respond to and manage emergency situations, working for one of the organisations authorised to transport gas throughout the UK. Working as part of a larger team, you may be deployed to site in pairs or alone, depending on the activity being undertaken. You’ll need good communication skills, as you may have to interact with the general public, agencies and emergency services on safety matters, and provide technical advice to other stakeholders. The gas network craftperson apprenticeship will prepare you to specialise in electrical and instrumentation, pressure management, pipelines, or emergency response.
