Build, maintain and repair gas network infrastructure
The broad purpose of the gas network operative is to construct, maintain and repair gas network infrastructure, to provide a reliable supply/service to domestic, commercial and industrial users. During the gas network operative apprenticeship, you’ll ensure the site is safe for work and members of the public, which may include traffic management and control. In your daily work, you’ll interact with colleagues, such as managers, network technicians and engineers, delivery drivers, reinstatement teams and administration staff. You’ll use a range of powered equipment, hand tools and plant on-site, for example diggers, rollers and forklifts. Work locations may include new build sites, public highways and domestic, industrial and commercial properties. You’ll be required to work in all weather conditions and may need to work shifts, standby and unsociable hours.
Duration: 24 months
Relevant school subjects: Science
Entry requirements for the gas network operative apprenticeship: Three GCSEs, including maths and English, or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience
Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs
Potential salary upon completion: £25,000 per annum
