Working in the healthcare sector, this healthcare engineering specialist technician apprenticeship has two options to focus on, either healthcare medical devices technician or healthcare estates technician. You could work for NHS trusts, private healthcare providers, healthcare medical device suppliers, healthcare estates suppliers and owners, or private finance initiative contractors. As a healthcare medical device technician, you’ll work on medical devices, while healthcare estates technicians work on plant, building services and systems. You’ll often have contact with patients as you may need to complete work where patients are present or where the medical device is connected to the patient, so expect to witness various stages of their illness or recovery. Your main duties will include testing, installing, decommissioning and safety checks of the equipment, you’ll also conduct handovers and explain any technical information and advice to clinical staff.

Entry requirements for the healthcare engineering specialist technician apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or experience.
