Inspect and repair a range of heavy vehicles and trailers
A heavy vehicle technician works on all the systems found within the vehicle. The nature of the work ranges from replacing simple parts through to solving complex faults with the use of diagnostic methods and equipment. Your day-to-day tasks during the heavy vehicle service and maintenance technician apprenticeship will constantly change, driven by the introduction of ever more complex technologies and diagnostic techniques. As such, you’ll develop expertise in the technical side of your role. You’ll also develop strong problem-solving skills and a good grasp of the theoretical and practical aspects of vehicle systems and associated ancillaries. You must be able to work independently but also operate as an effective team member.

Entry requirements for the heavy vehicle service and maintenance technician apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £30,000 per annum
