Maintain a range of machinery, plant and equipment

During the land-based service engineer apprenticeship, you’ll typically work under the supervision of a senior technician in the workplace or on the customer’s site, possibly outdoors. You’ll undertake a diverse set of tasks on a range of machinery. You’ll conduct inspections, perform routine servicing and maintenance, and carry out repairs. The nature of the job role presents challenges ranging from routine maintenance to the repair of elementary mechanical faults. From you this will learn a diverse blend of skills, industry underpinning knowledge and the disciplines required for environmental and safe working practice. All engineering roles will require a high level of technical ability and a passion for fixing things. Your occupational title will be prefixed by the industry sector that you are within, for example you could become an agricultural service engineer or a forestry equipment service engineer.

Duration: 18 months

Relevant school subjects: Science, DT and engineering

Entry requirements for the land-based service engineer apprenticeship: Two GCSEs in English and maths, or equivalent qualifications

Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs

Potential salary upon completion: £25,000 per annum
