Install and maintain lightning protection and earthing systems

As a lightning protection operative you’ll install and maintain lightning protection and earthing systems to buildings and infrastructure to minimise damage to structures and reduce the risk of injury to people. During the lightning protection operative apprenticeship you’ll typically work on a construction site, working on the outside of building structures on the roof or walls, or on equipment that is open to the elements. Tasks will include product installation, routine testing and maintenance, and producing records of the work undertaken. You’ll also assist in complex testing, under direct supervision.

 

Duration: 18 months

Relevant school subjects: DT

Entry requirements for the lightning protection operative apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs

Potential salary upon completion: £23,000 per annum
