Maintain the safety, integrity and effective operation of plant and equipment

The maintenance and operations engineering technician apprenticeship covers seven roles: electrical, mechanical, control and instrumentation, wind turbine, electrical system and process control, electromechanical, and plant operations. As a technician in these roles, you’ll maintain the safety, integrity and effective operation of plant and equipment in one or more industries that are part of the broader national infrastructure within the engineering sector, such as electricity generation, telecommunications power plants, and oil and gas refinement. Each role follows a slightly different career path. For example, electrical, mechanical, control and instrumentation, and wind turbine technicians will work on various types of common plant and equipment, so you’ll likely migrate through various sectors during the course of your career.

Duration: 36 months

Relevant school subjects: Science and engineering

Entry requirements for the maintenance and operations engineering technician apprenticeship: Three GCSEs, including maths, English and science 

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels

Potential salary upon completion: £28,000 per annum
