Non-destructive testing engineer apprenticeship

Responsible for the oversight of all non-destructive testing operations

A non-destructive testing engineer is responsible for the oversight of all non-destructive testing operations, including the preparation of work plans and procedures for other staff to work in accordance with. Non-destructive testing engineers use their acquired knowledge and skills to enable non-destructive testing systems to operate safely, efficiently and in an environmentally sustainable way. In this role, you’ll maintain and manage applications of current and developing technology and undertake engineering design and development within manufacturing, construction and operations. You’ll solve problems in developed technologies, and deliver engineering projects or services using established technologies and methods. You’ll provide financial planning and management, together with taking some responsibility for leading and developing other professional staff. During the non-destructive testing engineer apprenticeship you’ll learn to employ cutting-edge non-destructive testing techniques, such as corrosion analysis, thermographic testing, vibration analysis and advanced inspection techniques. On completion, you’ll achieve a bachelor’s degree in non-destructive testing.


Duration: 48 months

Relevant school subjects: Science and DT

Entry requirements for the non-destructive testing engineer apprenticeship: Three A-levels, including maths and a science or engineering subject, or a minimum of three NDT level 2 methods, including at least one complex method. Alternatives will be considered

Achievement upon completion: Level 6 (Degree)—equivalent to a bachelor’s degree

Potential salary upon completion: £30,000 per annum
