Support the safe and efficient operation of the bus, coach and rail transport networks

Playing an integral role to the operational effectiveness of the UK transport network, during the network operations apprenticeship you’ll design, develop and monitor the performance of timetables and transport services ensuring they meet the requirements of stakeholders and customers. Core content of the apprenticeship includes safety, quality and customer service, you’ll then follow one of the following specialist pathways: scheduler or network performance operator. Schedulers are responsible for the design and development of operating timetables for vehicles, bus, coach, along with train-crew duties and staff rosters for day-to-day, temporary and emergency operations. Network performance operators are responsible for monitoring the performance of services on a transport network and identify when services are not running to plan, such as failures, events and incidents. You’ll work well in a team and understand the importance of a safe working environment.

Duration: 12 months

Relevant school subjects: Geography, maths

Entry requirements for the network operations apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience.

Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs

Potential salary upon completion: £28,000 per annum
