Nursing Associate Apprenticeship

Support registered nurses by caring for people in hospitals, community settings and social care

Working in health and social care, you’ll support registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, compassionate care for people of all ages. Nursing associates can work in hospitals, GP practices, community services, care homes, mental health settings, hospices or people’s homes. During the nursing associate apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to assess people’s needs, support care plans, monitor health, promote wellbeing and help people manage physical, mental, behavioural or cognitive health conditions. In your day-to-day work, you may take observations, support personal care, help with nutrition and hydration, assist with mobility, care for wounds, give health advice, administer medicines where appropriate and communicate with patients, families and carers. You’ll need to work within professional limits, know when to ask for help and keep accurate records. You’ll also learn about dignity, privacy, safeguarding, infection prevention, equality and person-centred care. This role suits someone who is caring, responsible, resilient and interested in developing a regulated healthcare career with the option to progress into registered nursing.

Relevant school subjects: Science, health and social care, English

Entry requirements for the nursing associate apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including maths and English, and relevant healthcare or care experience may be helpful

Achievement upon completion: Level 5

Potential salary upon completion: £28,500 per annum
