Assist pharmacists in chemists and hospital dispensaries

During the pharmacy technician apprenticeship you’ll manage the supply of medicines and devices in a pharmacy, and assists pharmacists with advisory services. You’ll be able to carry out this role in a range of settings, including registered pharmacies, community services, the prison service, GP practices, dispensing doctors’ practices, care homes and clinical commissioning groups, hospitals, and within the pharmaceutical industry. Your duties will include providing safe and effective pharmacy services; supplying medicines and devices to patients, whether on prescription or over the counter; pre-packing, assembling and labelling medicines; providing information to patients and other healthcare professionals; and managing areas of medicines supply, such as dispensaries. In this role, you’ll be responsible for carrying out both routine and specialist services, including highly complex activities requiring you to use your professional judgement. You’ll need to communicate well with healthcare professionals, patients and the public, respecting and maintaining privacy at all times.

Duration: 24 months

Entry requirements for the pharmacy technician apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels

Potential salary upon completion: £25,000 per annum
