Provide rescue cover to people operating at height and in confined spaces, when they face exceptional hazards
The specialist rescue operative role has two main functions: to provide rescue cover to people operating at height and in confined spaces, when they face exceptional hazards; and to train others to operate competently in the rescue environment. During the specialist rescue operative apprenticeship, you’ll facilitate the escape and rescue of people, including casualties, from confined spaces or underground environments. This will involve you coordinating with other small teams to carry out an effective rescue. You’ll carry out environmental monitoring, administer respiratory protection and specialist first aid, and facilitate extraction and transport. The key to this will be communication, as small teams must come together to carry out a complex rescue and transport of casualties. You’ll carry out inspections of competence and equipment. Furthermore, you’ll report deficiencies, defects, conduct risk assessments, work alone and in a team, demonstrate good knowledge and a strong discipline towards safety, health and the environment.
