Beauty therapy covers a range of treatments, from facials to waxing to advanced treatments such as micropigmentation. You’ll work closely with clients and will need the ability to put them at ease, and generally be pleasant and personable. As a beauty therapy apprentice at the intermediate level, you’ll assist senior therapists as required and provide short, express treatment to clients. You will learn a range of skills and techniques, including facials, make-up, waxing, spray tanning, brow and lash treatments, manicures and pedicures. On the advanced level apprenticeship, you’ll generally specialise in a particular area such as body massage, electrical treatments, make-up or general beauty therapy. Beauty therapists commonly carry out a range of tasks such as electrical epilation, skin camouflage, fashion and photographic make-up and airbrush make-up.
Duration: 12 months
Relevant school subjects: Business studies
Entry requirements: Demonstrable enthusiasm and passion for hair and beauty
Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs; Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £18,000 per annum
