ELA Training Services to run pilot for apprenticeship entry requirement exemptions

The Department for Education has chosen ELA Training Services to run a pilot testing an exemption for learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who face disproportionate challenges in accessing apprenticeships.

Running until 2024 and open to any apprentices, including those already in the workplace with training provided by ELA, the pilot will grant exemptions for certain apprenticeship entry requirements.

SEND learners without any evidence of an education health and care plan or learning difficulties assessment statement with low English and maths levels currently struggle to access apprenticeship programmes.

Under the new pilot, learners without evidence will be able to work towards and pass the lower level of functional skills in English and maths with support (entry level 3).

ELA said in a blog post that this shift in approach holds the promise of opening doors to apprenticeships for a wider range of individuals, empowering them to pursue fulfilling careers and contribute their valuable skills to the workforce.

Ali Khan, director of ELA, said in a statement: “This groundbreaking initiative underscores the commitment of ELA to fostering diversity, equality, and social mobility.”

“By actively breaking down barriers to entry into apprenticeships for individuals with SEND, we take a significant stride towards building a more inclusive society where everyone can thrive and contribute their unique talents.”

ELA Training Services is an umbrella company for ELA Adult Learning and they offer apprenticeships in early years, health and social care, residential childcare, business leadership, and management.

Businesses seeking a reliable and thriving training provider can explore ELA’s training solutions on its website.

In a follow-up statement provided to The Apprenticeship Guide blog for employers and training providers, Khan continued: “While some training providers have unfortunately faced liquidation recently, ELA Training Services remains dedicated to our mission of empowering businesses and professionals with the skills needed to succeed.

“We have built our success on a foundation of unwavering commitment to our clients, continuous innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. We stand strong amidst the challenges and remain poised for further growth.”
