In the run up to Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2025 QA Scotland, the country’s leading trainer of tech, data and digital apprenticeships is calling on employers across Scotland, who have never taken on an apprentice, to consider the advantages.
“Many employers think that an apprentice is not for them, or that it is a programme designed for other industries, not for their own.” explains Alison Cantle, Marketing Manager QA Scotland. “But the truth is so different!”
“Our current apprentice employers include businesses across the spectrum from travel agencies to law firms, public sector administration to utility suppliers, estate agents to marketing departments, and with an array of modern apprenticeship programmes to choose from, there is valuable training on offer for every company.”
Why hire an apprentice?
Keep up with technology
Tech, data and digital apprenticeships bring in essential skills for today’s business market. Not just for young people, but for existing staff who can upskill.
Business Administration, Application Support, Helpdesk Support, Digital Marketing are all sought after, and the training provided through the government’s apprenticeship scheme is second to none.
Unlock cost savings and boost productivity
Hiring an apprentice not only prepares you for tomorrow but also provides you with a skilled and loyal employee who can grow with your business and adapt to changing needs. It reduces staff turnover, saves on costly recruitment and replacement expenses, and boosts productivity.
Tailor-made talent
“Employers can shape young talent and seamlessly integrate them into their company culture and processes, free from any preconceived working habits,” Alison adds. QA will tailor the apprenticeship to your own business needs, ensuring value right from the start.
Employers in Scotland do not need to pay Class 1 National Insurance contributions for apprentices under the age of 25, provided the apprentice is on an approved UK government apprenticeship standard or framework and earns less than £967 a week (£50,270 a year).
This exemption helps reduce the overall cost of hiring apprentices, making it even more attractive for businesses to invest in young talent.
According to Skills Development Scotland, apprenticeships can deliver an average of £10,280 in annual productivity gains per apprentice. As apprentices learn from experienced colleagues and external training providers, they help your business stay ahead of industry trends.
