NOCN introduces new diploma for machining technicians

NOCN group, an international education charity, has announced the launch of a new suite of skills solutions aimed at machining technicians within the engineering sector.

The newly developed level 3 diploma, available from August 2024, is designed to complement the apprenticeship by providing vocational qualifications that match the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours.

The machining technician apprenticeship standard serves sectors such as aerospace, automotive, maritime defence, nuclear, and construction.

Alongside the new level 3 diploma, NOCN will continue to provide apprenticeship end point assessments for machining technician apprentices, and a new assured short course.

The new assured short course, which will launch soon, will help machinists transition from using conventional milling machines to computer numeric control (CNC) milling machines, and from traditional turning methods to CNC turning.

Nicola Hollands, sector manager for engineering, advanced manufacturing, and green skills at NOCN group, commented on the new developments:

“We are focused on creating career pathways that are critical to the industry. The machining technician apprenticeship plays a key role in this, and our new qualifications and assessments are designed to ensure apprentices can successfully complete their training. The introduction of assured short courses also responds to growing demand from employers and educational institutions, providing accessible training and certification that enhances the expertise of workers in the field.”
