Western Power Distribution, an electrical distribution company, has launched its 2018 Craft Apprenticeship Scheme, and is looking for talented and highly motivated individuals to join its workforce.
The Craft Apprenticeship Scheme is aimed at recruiting enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to operate in three main roles: working on overhead lines, as jointers on the underground cable network and as fitters working on switches and transformers in substations.
The core training for these positions can take anywhere between 18 months and two years to complete, over which time the apprentices will have gained extensive hands-on experience, and also achieved the City & Guilds 2339 level 2 qualification in electrical engineering.
“This highly regarded qualification will then allow apprentices to progress onto a full-time career with WPD, good opportunities for career progression and a competitive working salary,” according to Western Power Distribution.
Operating electricity distribution systems across the Midlands, Southwest England and South Wales, Western Power Distribution employs more than 6,300 dedicated staff serving 7.8 million customers, constantly working to maintain, repair and extend the power network.
“Our people are at the heart of our business success”, said Phil Swift, operations director at Western Power Distribution, “and our apprentices of today will be our skilled staff of tomorrow—safely delivering outstanding levels of customer service and operational performance for our customers”.
Western Power Distribution is now accepting applications from candidates with the relevant qualifications (at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, or grade 4 and above in the new GCSE grading structure) in maths, English language and one science subject.
Alternatively, a level 3 electrical engineering qualification along with GCSE maths and English language grade C or above (or grade 4 and above in the new GCSE grading structure).
The closing date for this scheme is 12 February.
