Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), such as cell and gene therapies, and other new complex medicines including vaccines, oligonucleotides, and RNA therapies, have the potential to alter the course of disease and offer real hope to patients.
The UK is a frontrunner in this exciting, disruptive field, but to build a successful industry, we must have a skilled workforce. To ensure this critical talent pipeline, the Advanced Therapies Apprenticeship Community (ATAC), coordinated by the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult (CGT Catapult), was set up. While initially focused on advanced therapies, ATAC’s mission has expanded to tackle the wider world of complex medicine manufacturing, including vaccines and biologics.
We work with industry partners to create and run specialised apprenticeship programmes, the core of our mission. These programmes range from Level 3 Technicians right up to Level 7 Advanced Research roles in critical areas like Laboratory Science, Digital and Automation, Manufacturing, and Quality. By focusing on apprentices, ATAC ensures we have a steady, growing pipeline of skilled people ready to develop, make, and deliver these groundbreaking medicines at scale, securing both better health and economic prosperity for the nation.
