At 27 years of age, Kirsten Hopkins has been named as JTL Welsh Regional Electrical Apprentice of the Year 2019. The JTL National Awards reward apprentices who have exceeded expectations in the building services engineering sector
During her four-year apprenticeship course working as an electrician at Zener Electrical Services, Kirsten worked exceptionally hard and successfully passed all her exams on the first attempt. Her work has involved a variety of demanding roles, including liaising with clients and acting as lead electrician on a large industrial project.
After leaving school and studying to be an accountant, Kirsten decided that she didn’t want to do an office job and found her feet by training as an electrician. Her apprenticeship involved juggling pregnancy, family life and work, but she wasn’t fazed by the demands of the job. In fact, her dedication to her work means that she has become a valuable member of the company.
Zener Electrical Services has praised Kirsten for her professional attitude, confidence and approachable personality when dealing with clients. She has even put forward her own ideas for improving the business and is not afraid to speak her mind to her employer.
Kirsten is now fully qualified as an electrician and already has strong aspirations for her future career.
“There are plenty of opportunities for me now. I could go on and specialise and become a manager. My own personal thing I want is to take over the business and expand it hopefully, in a few years.”
