Abigail is 21-years-old and is currently undertaking a level 4 project professional apprenticeship with the Ministry of Defence – Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S)
Abigail said: “At the age of 18 I was still unsure what I wanted to do for a career. University was a popular option and at the time it seemed like the only logical path. I felt a lot of pressure to do a degree and I attended Bath Spa University for a year studying psychology and education. I soon realised that university wasn’t for me.”
“Knowing that I couldn’t just leave university without finding an alternative path, I discovered the DE&S project professional apprenticeship scheme. I completed some online tests and took part in an assessment day. Soon after I was delighted to be offered a position on the scheme at DE&S headquarters in Bristol.”
“Since then my placements have been varied, from travelling to Royal Air Force bases as a part of the fast air support team and helping with customer relations in the ships portfolio office alongside our customer, the Royal Navy. I have loved every minute of my development and am extremely grateful for the opportunities I have had, watching my studies become reality.”
“Every day at DE&S is a chance to learn something new, a chance to explore different paths knowing that there are plenty of career prospects within an organisation that cares for its staff.”
