Northumbria University: Isabelle Hewitt

Isabelle Hewitt works for Esh Group as a trainee quantity surveyor, and is currently working towards a five-year, chartered surveyor degree apprenticeship at Northumbria University in Newcastle

Isabelle won the Apprentice of the Year at the G4C North East Awards.

Discussing her apprenticeship, Isabelle said: “I personally find a degree apprenticeship to be one of the best opportunities that anyone could ask for. Being able to learn the practical and the theory and apply it to the physical jobs, and vice versa, provides a perspective that I don’t think you would have, doing the degree alone. There are skills that can only be developed at university and those that can only be developed when doing the job. These real-life skills and practical knowledge are a perfect balance.”

Speaking about her recent win at the G4C North East Awards, she said: “I did not expect to win the award, however, I am so grateful to Esh for submitting me for this and putting so much into me and my apprenticeship. Winning this was such a shock, but amazing! It has given me further drive to progress as a working professional and be the best I can be.”

Northumbria University offers a range of higher and degree apprenticeships, including three pathways to chartered surveyor: building surveying BSc (hons), real estate BSc (hons) and quantity surveying BSc (Hons).
