Duncan Storey is an apprentice quantity surveyor working at Joyce Construction, and is currently completing his chartered surveyor degree apprenticeship at Northumbria University
Speaking about his experience of completing a degree apprenticeship, Duncan said: “I chose to do an apprenticeship because I felt it was the best way forward to work in the industry while also studying for the degree.”
“The benefits of doing the apprenticeship as opposed to a standard degree are that when you are studying at the university and attending lectures, you really understand and can relate back to the content of the lectures based on your work experience in the industry. Every day you are taking things you have learned from university into a practical role, experiencing the whole spectrum.”
Northumbria University offers a range of higher and degree apprenticeships across a range of sectors, including architecture, built environment and construction, leadership and management, financial and legal services, and digital, tech and creative.
