Identify, analyse and monitor asbestos materials

Asbestos is a hazardous material that is present within many buildings and past exposure currently results in thousands of deaths every year. Analysts and surveyors identify, analyse and monitor materials by assisting employers and property owners in understanding the risks it presents and advising on how to control these risks. During the asbestos analyst and surveyor apprenticeship you’ll inspect buildings, premises and machinery, and provide information to organisations to allow them to manage the risks. The widespread nature of asbestos means you’ll visit a range of locations, such as schools, offices, factories and homes. You’ll also have to monitor and manage the asbestos removal, but your role will not involve removal work, which must be carried out by an independent organisation. You’ll assess the presence of any material and identify whether removal needs to take place. Work will involve being in a highly-controlled environment and working under strict regulatory guidelines.
