Monitor and detect potential security threats to an organisation

A cyber security technician is the first line of cyber security support, requiring individuals to monitor and detect potential security threats and escalate as necessary. During the cyber security technician apprenticeship you’ll support secure and uninterrupted business operations of an organisation through the implementation of cyber security mechanisms and the application of cyber security procedures and controls. As a cyber security technician, you’ll contribute to the delivery of a security culture across an organisation, understanding vulnerabilities and threats and supporting the development of an organisation’s cyber security maturity. You’ll apply procedures and controls to maintain security and control of an organisation, and process security requests ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability of information stored digitally. In your daily work, you’ll patch software, install software updates, implement access control, and configure firewalls, security incident and event management tools.

 

Duration: 18 months

Relevant school subjects: ICT

Entry requirements for the cyber security technician apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced) – equivalent to A-levels

Potential salary upon completion: £27,000
