Design, build, service and repair a range of engineering products and services
Engineering technicians working within the aerospace, automotive, aviation and maritime defence sectors are predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex work and you must be able to apply safe systems of working; make technical contributions to the process; help solve engineering and manufacturing problems; be able to communicate effectively to others using both technical and non-technical information; and have a commitment to your personal development. Products you may find yourself working with during the engineering technician apprenticeship could involve mechanical, electrical, electronic, electromechanical and fluid power components and systems. Other job titles could include aerospace technician, aviation engineer and toolmaker.
Duration: 42 months
Relevant school subjects: DT, maths, engineering
Entry requirements for the engineering technician apprenticeship: Depend on employer, typically 4 GCSEs at grade 4, including maths, English and a science
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £26,000 per annum
