Lay carpets, vinyl, linoleum and rubber, or laminate or wood flooring
A floorlayer is a trained craftsperson that lays carpets, vinyl, linoleum and rubber, or laminate and wood flooring. The apprenticeship will be on offer at both large and small employers that serve buildings within a diverse range of commercial and domestic environments. Buildings may be existing or new and part of a construction site, such as housing estates, schools, shops, hospitals or airports. The type of floor covering will vary from basic to designer installations, so you’ll potentially work with a diverse range of materials and designs. As this is one of the finishing trades, you’ll contribute significantly to the ‘look and feel’ of a building, which can provide great personal satisfaction. As an apprentice, you’ll need to be a good communicator who is able to interact effectively with colleagues, clients and associated trades. During the floorlayer apprenticeship you’ll also need to learn to interpret drawings and extract relevant information to complete the installation of the flooring.
