Investigate and reconstruct road traffic and other vehicle-related incidents to determine how an incident occurred

Using scientific and engineering principles, you’ll investigate and reconstruct road traffic and other vehicle-related incidents to determine how an incident occurred. You’ll then provide expert opinion to other parties, such as courts, insurance companies and members of the legal profession. With a potentially traumatic nature to the work, you will identify, preserve and record physical evidence from the scene of an incident. Using your expert knowledge, you’ll provide analysis and advice to support an investigation and may be required to testify your conclusions in court. Although working as part of a team, you’ll have sole responsibility for the investigation, including the production and sign-off of reports. On completion of the forensic collision investigator apprenticeship, you’ll gain a BSc in forensic road collision investigation.
