Youth justice practitioner apprenticeship

Work with children who have offended or are at risk of offending

Working with children aged 10 to 17, during the youth justice practitioner apprenticeship you’ll use evidence-based interventions to help them abstain from future crime. In your daily work you’ll interact with children involved in offending or anti-social behaviour and their families or carers, working alongside social workers, probation officers, police officers, youth workers, educational and health staff. You’ll be working within the community and in secure establishments and will need a good understanding of how the Youth Court operates and legislation relevant to children. As you’ll be working with some of the most disadvantaged children in our society, who often have multiple and complex needs, you’ll need to be patient and understanding to their needs. You’ll be responsible for promoting the safety and wellbeing of the children, making ethical and evidence-based decisions that will affect their lives going forward. As a practitioner you’ll have responsibilities for specific areas of youth justice work, for example education, intensive supervision and surveillance or substance abuse and will advise other staff in these areas.

Duration: 25 months

Entry requirements for the youth justice practitioner apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely A-levels or equivalent qualifications or experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 5 (Higher)—equivalent to a foundation degree

Potential salary upon completion: £27,000
