Oversee the management of the golf course, resources and staff
A golf course manager needs excellent management skills as well as a high level of technical, agronomic and mechanical knowledge. During the golf course manager apprenticeship, you’ll be responsible for the management of the golf course, resources and staff, on behalf of your employer. You’ll plan and implement maintenance schedules for the golf course and equipment and will be responsible for the allocation of work, recruitment of staff to the greenkeeping team and will also apply human resource policies within your team, responsible for the strategic and budgetary plans. It is your job to oversee the production of a quality playing surface and ensure the course offers a consistent challenge and an enjoyable experience for golfers. The golf course manager’s role can take you wherever the game is played, from working on a small nine-hole golf course to large, internationally renowned facilities, including championship courses.
Duration: 36 months
Relevant school subjects: PE and business studies
Entry requirements for the golf course manager apprenticeship: Existing level 3 qualification in greenkeeping or equivalent and some supervisory experience
Achievement upon completion: Level 5 (Higher)—equivalent to a foundation degree
Potential salary upon completion: £25000
