Insulation Installation Operative Apprenticeship

Install insulation to help make homes and buildings warmer and more energy efficient

Working in construction and retrofit, you’ll help improve the energy efficiency of homes, commercial buildings and public buildings by installing insulation safely and correctly. Insulation installation operatives can work on new build projects or upgrade existing buildings, including houses, schools, hospitals, industrial sites and other properties. During the insulation installation operative apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to place, blow or spray insulation into different parts of a building, depending on your chosen route. This may include cavity walls, floors, cold roofs, warm roofs, partition walls and framed sections. In your day-to-day work, you may prepare surfaces, check materials, use tools and machinery, follow drawings or specifications, apply treatments, remove old or failed insulation and make sure work is completed to industry standards. You may also work outdoors, at height, in confined spaces or in people’s homes, so safety, communication and attention to detail are important. This role suits someone who enjoys practical work, construction and helping buildings become more comfortable, efficient and sustainable.
