It’s not that easy being green, but getting into a low carbon heating technician apprenticeship helps: this is a ‘green apprenticeship’ which has been hand-picked by industry experts to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. A low carbon heating technician apprentice focuses on zero carbon central heating and hot water systems. Your job will involve planning, installing, and maintaining these systems in buildings like homes and businesses, using eco-friendly heat sources like heat pumps and solar collectors. Your ICT skills will come in handy as you will be managing mechanical and electrical systems daily. You’ll need to be good with people as you’ll interact with customers daily, providing great service – all while handling heavy equipment! Whether you’re working independently or as part of a team, you’ll collaborate closely with managers, colleagues, and other tradespeople. Be prepared for physical work, including lifting heavy items and working in tight spaces. 

Duration: 36 months  

Relevant school subjects: Maths, IT 

Entry requirements for the low carbon heating technician apprenticeship: Varies by employer, but typically GCSEs in English and Maths and basic ICT skills. 

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels 

Potential salary upon completion: £22,000
