Install, service and repair transport refrigeration units.
Mobile transport refrigeration technicians are a key part of the ‘cold chain’: the long line of methods, processes, and logistical requirements which preserve the shelf life of products like meat, seafood, vaccines, and even unusual items like antiques and art. As a key part of the supply chain industry, your apprenticeship will be focused on installing, servicing, and repairing transport refrigeration units like the kind you’ll find on vehicles (think HGV trucks and home delivery vans). This is a highly skilled role: you’ll learn how to quickly diagnose faults and maintenance issues with complex and specialist equipment. Because of the nature of the industry, emergency calls can come in 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You’ll also develop transferable skills, like working with customers; working out in the field; and maintaining your own stock so you can make repairs on the fly.
