Construct, maintain and repair the UK’s electrical power network
A power network craftsperson has responsibility for the safe construction, maintenance and repair of the UK’s electrical power network, to provide a safe and reliable supply of electricity to the country. This will involve you working at various locations across a company’s power network. The occupation exists within an industry with a high level of safety critical activities, so you’ll need to develop a disciplined and responsible approach to work. Your work will require a good level of physical ability in order to access positions at height. There are three specialisms within this occupation: working on overhead lines, on underground cables and in substation fitting. During the power network craftsperson apprenticeship, you’ll need to meet the core requirements and those of one of these specialisms.
Duration: 30 months
Relevant school subjects: Science
Entry requirements for the power network craftsperson apprenticeship: Three to five GCSEs, including maths, English and a science
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £30,000 per annum
