Work as an accountant or bookkeeper for an accounting practice, business, organisation or the HMRC
A professional accounting or tax technician will be responsible for creating, verifying and reviewing accurate and timely financial information within or on behalf of an organisation, in order to meet relevant ethical, professional and legal standards. Ethics and integrity are fundamental to the role, as are the regulations that govern accounting and tax—all of which you’ll learn during the course of the apprenticeship. During the professional accounting or tax technician apprenticeship, you’ll develop an understanding of and learn how to apply professional standards and legal regulations to an organisation’s financial information, and to comply with the fundamental principles of integrity, objectivity, professional competence, and due care and confidentiality. This apprenticeship allows student registration with a number of professional bodies in this sector.
Duration: 18 to 24 months
Relevant school subjects: Maths
Entry requirements for the professional accounting or tax technician apprenticeship: Five GCSEs, including maths and English, or equivalent
Achievement upon completion: Level 4 (Higher)—equivalent to a foundation degree and above
Potential salary upon completion: £24,000 per annum
