Professional forester apprenticeship

Provide expert advice on the planning, creation, management, harvesting and utilisation of woodlands and forests

Professional foresters will be integral to the achievement of Government targets for delivery of public goods under the 25-year plan for the environment, and Net Zero 2050 targets for carbon reduction. Working for organisations with an interest in forestry and woodland creation and management, you’ll provide expert technical advice on the planning, creation, management, harvesting and utilisation of woodlands and forests. Expertise in forest and woodland carbon accounting and land use change are becoming increasingly important for professional foresters as you write and implement managing plans. During the professional forester apprenticeship, you’ll need to create long-term relationships with your clients, in some cases your management decisions may not even come to fruition in your or your clients’ lifetime. Other job titles can include forest and woodland adviser, forest manager and woodland officer. On completion, you’ll achieve a BSc (Hons) in Forest Management.

Duration: 36 months

Entry requirements for the professional forester apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely A-levels or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience

Achievement upon completion: Level 6 (Degree)—equivalent to a bachelor’s degree

Potential salary upon completion: £27,000 per annum
