As a senior healthcare support worker apprentice, your mission is clear: to help registered healthcare professionals, offering compassionate care and support to patients across various settings, from hospitals to homes. Depending on your chosen pathway, you’ll be helping adults, new mothers, surgical patients, people with mental health concerns, children, or people who need therapeutic exercises to cope with a change in life circumstances. During a senior healthcare support worker apprenticeship, your daily tasks will vary, from administering treatments to providing emotional comfort and ensuring patient safety. Collaboration is key as you will work closely with diverse healthcare teams, social care staff, and non-clinical colleagues to deliver seamless care. As a senior healthcare support worker apprentice, your responsibilities will include sticking to care plans, upholding standards, and staying updated with training. You may even find yourself guiding other staff members, all while maintaining effective communication and respecting patient privacy.

 

Duration: 24 months

Relevant school subjects: Science

Entry requirements for the senior healthcare support worker apprenticeship: Prior experience as a support worker in the healthcare sector

Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels

Potential salary upon completion: £22,300 per annum
