Assemble and install steelworks required to strengthen reinforced concrete structures

The primary role of a steel fixer is to assemble and erect the steel components required to strengthen reinforced concrete structures such as bridges, culverts, docks, industrial plants, power stations, railway stations, reservoirs, subways, and water and sewage plants. During the steel fixer apprenticeship, you’ll work as part of a larger team on a construction project in which you’ll have responsibility for constructing reinforcement for columns, beams, walls and floors no matter how big or small the project is. You’ll be able to interpret contract information, drawings and specifications in order to assemble and install the components correctly. This apprenticeship will deliver sufficient competence, underpinning knowledge and understanding to allow you to meet the requirements of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.

Duration: 18 months

Entry requirements for the steel fixer apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent qualifications

Achievement upon completion: Level 2 (Intermediate)—equivalent to GCSEs

Potential salary upon completion: £34,000 per annum
