I was drawn to construction by a fascination with how the built environment shapes our world, and how multi-faceted the industry is. An apprenticeship offered the perfect way to gain hands-on experience, keep learning, and build a career, while earning and avoiding student debt. Joining BAM as a Digital Engineer Apprentice has given me the chance to work on impactful projects and grow professionally from day one.
At BAM, I’m part of a supportive digital team, helping set up and deliver projects using digital tools to drive data-informed decisions, streamline tasks, and ensure everyone involved is digitally upskilled. I’ve also taken on extra responsibilities, including Fire Marshal, First Aider, and apprentice buddy, which have helped me grow in confidence and leadership.
One of my proudest achievements has been developing a data authoring tool that automated model-checking and reporting for Department for Education (DfE) projects. I’ve also helped modernise outdated processes across other projects. I was proud to receive the Above and Beyond Award for this work.
The learning opportunities through my apprenticeship are endless. I’ve completed several courses, including the Operam Academy’s Information Management Practitioner course, and regularly attend industry events like Digital Construction Week and internal innovation workshops.
Looking ahead, I aspire to become a Digital Engineer and eventually a Project Lead. I’m passionate about how digital innovation can drive sustainability and efficiency in construction.
This journey has shown me that with curiosity, commitment, and the right support, growth and achievement are limitless. My apprenticeship hasn’t just opened doors, it’s given me the opportunity to build my own. I’d recommend it to anyone ready to learn, grow, and make a real impact.
