City of Bristol College: Nathan Green

City of Bristol College logoNathan Green is currently studying a level 6 aerospace engineering degree apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce, whilst spending one day per week studying at the University of the West of England.

Nathan began his journey of education with the engineering level 3 foundation qualification from City of Bristol College, which he studied from 2020 to 2022. Even though there were hurdles during his college journey due to COVID-19, he was still able to progress greatly in his desired field.

"People gathered around a Rolls-Royce recruitment or information booth at a career or networking event. The setting is inside a food court area called 'Breakers Food Traders' with bright yellow and white walls. Attendees are engaged in conversation with representatives, some holding brochures or documents. A mix of casual and formal attire, with a diverse group of participants, suggests an open and approachable event atmosphere."A reflection of his hard work and dedication whilst on the course, Nathan came out with an outstanding distinction which he continued to develop by taking on an extended diploma. After completing this course with yet another incredible result of a triple distinction, he pursued an apprenticeship to further his education and subsequently received great work experience.

Whilst at Rolls-Royce, he spends four days per week focusing on his placement and studies one day a week at university. His first placement saw him designing for future programmes and his current placement is working with naval warships. This involves carrying out research into their mileage, fuel, oil and much more.

Nathan represented Rolls-Royce at City of Bristol College’s recent STEM Career Fair at our Parkway Campus where he spoke to students about his progression and the amazing opportunities that are available after college.

He stated that, “a lot of teachers came up to me today,” as they welcomed him back to the college once more and congratulated him on how far his career and education have come.

We asked Nathan if he had any advice for our students thinking of a similar path and he stated, “Really do put the effort in. It’s a really good course to go on to as it allows you to have access to university pathways or degree apprenticeships. Most companies like the MOD, Babcock, Airbus and Rolls-Royce are looking for apprentices.”

He also stated that if you would like an apprenticeship, use the government website and search for engineering at the level that is appropriate for you. He stressed that it really can be that “easy” to find your next step in your career.

City of Bristol College are incredibly proud of Nathan and his progress and we wish him all the best in his career.
