Supervise the safe arrival, turnaround and departure of aircraft
An aviation operations specialist can work at a commercial airport, military base/aerodrome, heliport or other type of airfield. You’ll focus on the arrival, turnaround and departure of aircraft and maintaining an aviation operation. Your tasks may include loading and unloading of aircraft, air traffic control, movement of aircraft and vehicles airside, and the management of passengers both airside and landside. You’ll work as part of a combined team, within which communication with colleagues is essential, and you’ll play a key part of a coherent operation. Progression from the aviation ground specialist apprenticeship is expected to be into an aviation operations specialist role, with the option to progress to an aviation operations manager role.
Duration: 18 months

Entry requirements for the aviation ground specialist apprenticeship: Depend on employer, but likely GCSEs or equivalent
Achievement upon completion: Level 3 (Advanced)—equivalent to A-levels
Potential salary upon completion: £25,000 per annum
