Jessica Compton, who has undertaken a marketing traineeship at technology company PragmatiQ Solutions, was recently named Apprentice of the Year at the SME MK and Buckinghamshire Business Awards.
Jess has worked as a marketing coordinator at PragmatiQ Solutions while completing her BSc marketing management degree at the University of Northampton.
The prestigious Apprentice of the Year award is a fantastic achievement and a real reflection of Jess’s hard work and dedication over the last couple of years.
The SME MK and Buckinghamshire Business Awards celebrates the achievements of local businesses and individuals within the Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire area. They recognise those who show outstanding initiative, boldness and imagination and have undertaken personal training and development.
Commenting on her route into employment and the journey she has taken to become Apprentice of the Year, Jess said: “Prior to this career, I had plans to go to art college to study pattern design, as the internship/traineeship opportunities roles available within marketing weren’t really spoken about at school or college.
“After a lot of research, the opportunities within this industry became more apparent and some of the activities which marketing covered presented themselves: designing campaigns, social media, advertising, blogging, SEO (search engine optimisation), event organisation, PR (public relations) and more. The great thing about marketing is that it covers such a broad range of topics, meaning you can get involved with things you may never have expected and be creative with it.”
Jess added: “I also think gaining real-life experience alongside my degree has benefitted me hugely as it puts what I have learnt into context, enabled me to expand my network and understand what areas I want to further develop my skillset in.”
