NOCN Group is the first awarding organisation approved to deliver end point assessments (EPA) for the new low carbon heating technician apprenticeship standard.
This milestone is a major step forward in promoting green skills in the UK. The 36-month low carbon heating technician programme is a ‘royal apprenticeship,’ chosen to mark the King’s coronation due to its focus on sustainability. This programme trains apprentices to plan, install, service, and maintain zero-carbon heating and hot water systems in homes and commercial buildings.
Starting in August 2024
The first groups of learners will embark on this pioneering programme in August 2024. Upon completion, they will be prepared for roles such as renewable heating installers, technicians, or engineers. The City of Liverpool College has already committed to NOCN as its end point assessment organisation, setting a precedent for other institutions and employers expected to follow suit in the coming months.

New qualification offering
In addition to the EPA approval, NOCN has developed a low carbon heating technician level 3 diploma. This vocational qualification meets the training requirements for delivering the ‘off the job’ component of the apprenticeship programme and will be available from the end of June 2024. This development ensures a comprehensive training pathway for apprentices, reinforcing NOCN’s commitment to high-quality education and green skill advancement.
